Local History

The Extraordinary History of Flamborough and Beverly

There is a tremendous amount of local history in our area dating back thousands of years.

Few people realize it, but the Flamborough-Beverly region is filled with Indigenous transportation networks (many of which we now use as roads) and sites highlighting their presence over many millennia . Settlers arrived as far back as the late 18th century (1780s).
It is important that we know about our hometowns and where they came from. Whether it is Rockton, Greensville, Troy, Carlisle or Waterdown, there are many interesting stories to tell.  A core part of thee Grade 12 Canadian History, Identity and Culture (CHI4U1) course at WDHS relates to local history and the connections it has to the larger story of Canada.

Flamborough is very lucky to have an active historical society, as well as an impressive archives. Please check out their website at www.wefhs.myhamilton.ca.
